Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox Type A, also known as Botox Cosmetic, is a natural, highly purified protein that’s used to temporarily erase fine lines and reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles.

Botox is a neurotoxin that restricts the nerve signals that cause your facial muscles to contract. When it’s injected in just the right places, it leaves you with naturally smooth skin that has fewer wrinkles, creases, and fine lines.

What types of wrinkles does Botox address?

As one of the safest, most effective and least invasive cosmetic tools for temporary wrinkle reduction, Botox Cosmetic is the No. 1 treatment for dynamic wrinkles, or the deeper lines that are caused by daily facial muscle patterns and repeated facial expressions.

Botox is FDA-approved to diminish the appearance of the following wrinkles:

  • Angry 11s: the vertical furrows between your eyebrows
  • Worry lines: the horizontal furrows in your forehead
  • Crow’s feet: the tiny laugh lines at the corners of your eyes

Botox can also reduce the appearance of static wrinkles: The fine lines caused by factors like sun damage, genetics, or smoking. But, these lines tend to be most responsive to laser therapy, an advanced dermatological treatment that rejuvenates your skin from the inside out.

What is a Botox treatment like?

Before receiving Botox, you’ll have an initial consultation with a physician at District Dermatology. Besides discussing your goals and learning what you can expect from the treatment, they’ll also ask you a few medical questions to ensure you’re a suitable candidate for Botox.

Botox is a quick procedure that takes 10-15 minutes. Most patients get the results they’re looking for by treating several areas in a single session.

Because Botox is administered through very tiny needles, the injections are virtually painless. Any minor swelling or redness you may experience at the injection sites tend to be mild and brief.

Botox also requires little to no downtime so you can resume normal activities immediately after your session.

How long does Botox last?

Part of the reason that Botox is the most popular cosmetic skin treatment is that it provides immediate results: You can expect to begin seeing visibly smoother skin a day or two after your session.

Botox also delivers lasting results that typically endure an average of four months. If you’d like to maintain your new, younger-looking skin, all you have to do is schedule a routine Botox boost. To find out more, call or book your appointment online today.
